    • The visited part of the caves extends over 2.8 km with an impressive drop of 80 m. The underground course of the river is 3.5 km.

The visitor enters the mountain through a natural opening: the upper part includes vast rooms rich in concretions. The chasm connects this level to that of the river. The lower part follows a natural fault, witness to the work of the water.

The visitor exits through an artificial tunnel dug from 1913 to 1924.

The Betharram Caves are located in two departments: you enter through the Pyrénées-Atlantiques and come out through the Hautes-Pyrénées.

Currently, visitors are welcomed to a large shaded car park with 500 spaces for passenger cars. A shuttle then takes them to the entrance to the caves located 2 km above.

The Betharram Caves are also a unique place. Opened to the public in 1903, they offer a great diversity which makes it an essential place. Discover the inner beauty of the mountain and discover this series of caves on foot, by boat and by little train!

After having made the visit, the small train which transports them, stops in front of a magnificent building built in 1924, one of the very first in France in reinforced concrete.

In this hall, souvenirs, minerals, fossils and postcards are offered for the visitor's appreciation.

The underground circuit ends near the parking lot for cars and coaches.

You have to visit this place if you visit the lourdes church. It's a 24 mins drive from the Lourdes church but it was totally worth it. We came here on April so there was a not a lot of people but in July and August it will be packed. The guide was funny and excellent 💯 The stones and structures formed by water droplets was sensational to watch. The place is full of history. I highly recommend this place ✔️

Naturally formed underground caves discovers in the 1800's. There is a train ride and boat ride taking you around the caves. Truly a unique experience! Only a 40 minute ride from Lourdes.

Fantastic place! Free parking. Just follow the road signs for cars (not for buses). The 2h trip inside the cave is very well organised. Visitors are all the time escorted by friendly tour guide. Audio guides are available on different languages. The cave inside is truly breathtaking. Even the best camera can not capture the beauty of this cave. You must see it to appreciate it. Good for children and adults ( 4/5 years old + due to many steps going down). Steps and cave paths are wide and safe to walk. Lights inside are more than enough. Nice underground river crossing by boat, nice underground train ride at the end of the cave exploration. In overall this place worth every penny. The souvenir/coffee shop at the end of the trail is very nice as well. Good place to enjoy cup of coffee and apple pie before to leave. Highly recommended.

This is the worst experience at a tourist attraction that I have ever had. We queued to get a coach to the cave, queued to buy tickets (67.50 euros for a family of 5) and queued to begin the tour...
