About

  • English
    • Castet, in Béarn, is a picturesque village of less than 200 inhabitants which owes a large part of its fame to its fortified castle, a true emblem of the place.

      Castet Castle, a historic fortress

      A medieval vestige

Built in the 12th century, this castle was once the property of the Viscounts of Béarn. It has unfortunately suffered many vicissitudes over the centuries, including a partial destruction in 1450.

      A classified site

Despite the ravages of time, the castle has retained some of its old-world charm. It is now listed as a Historic Monument and offers visitors a glimpse of medieval life in the region.

      An exceptional panorama

Perched on a rocky spur, the castle dominates the valley and offers a breathtaking view of the surrounding landscapes. It is a privileged point of view to admire the surrounding nature.

What else can be done about it?

Although the interior visit is forbidden, it is possible to discover the exterior of the castle and appreciate its imposing architecture. The site is also an ideal starting point for hiking and cycling.
