Pouey Castle Madiran / Pacherenc du Vic-Bilh in Aydie

North of the Pyrenees, equidistant from the Atlantic Ocean and the Pyrenean mountains, in the appellation MADIRAN located on the borders of Gers, Pyrénées-Atlantiques and Hautes-Pyrénées, lies the vineyard of the Pouey Castle.

The history of Pouey Castle lasts for four generations. It continues thanks to the fervor of Bastien Lannusse, the youngest winemaker of the appellation. By his maturity and serenity, he has challenged himself to the future of his field. He took over the reins following his father in 2012 and from his first vintage, his wines were awarded.

These wines, Bastien wants them fruity, silky, expressive and typical of their soil, with soft tannins. He tries to make a wine that brings pleasure without denigrating the typicality of the terroir. Wine that resembles him, aromatic, greedy and flattering, that express his attachment to his land, his passion, his pride, and that especially enjoy. For now, it exports little. Its primary goal is to reach 120,000 bottles, maximum capacity of surface and current facilities. Expanding is not relevant in the immediate future. He wants to be able to keep the family spirit for now. Grow slowly but surely, like a wine.

As quality begins with the grapes that compose it, Bastien works his vineyard in sustainable agriculture. It benefits from a gravel-clay soil among the best of the appellation and a south-east, south and south-west exposure. Thanks to a lot of observation, few phyto products, organic amendments to promote the development of microorganisms, the almost total and permanent herbage of the inter-row, the wines of the Château du Pouey gain in expression and in fruit. In addition, this summer he began the process for a conversion to Organic Agriculture.
