    • Labeled Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant in recognition of its unique artisanal know-how and benefiting from obtaining the Geographical Indication “Linge Basque Lartigue 1910” honors a French manufacturing of ethical and responsible excellence.

Since 1910, the Lartigue family has perpetuated a unique artisanal know-how by weaving Basque linen in its workshops in Bidos and Ascain in the South-West of France. Philippe Lartigue, fourth generation of weaver, pays homage with creativity and passion to the Calixte Lartigue establishments, the first weaving workshopsfounded by his great-grandfather in Bidos. From winding to making, including weaving or warping, each stage of manufacturing is carried out with the greatest respect for the tradition of weaving Basque linen.

The visit to the workshop is an opportunity for tourists and locals alike to explore the history of this territory, its traditions and to learn a little more about an iconic product that many already have in their homes, without always knowing its origin or the stages of manufacture. By entering the weaving workshop, the visitor is immersed in the rhythmic world of the looms, the warping mill and other mechanical machines. There, he admires the ancestral gestures of the weavers amidst the interlacing of multicoloured cotton and linen threads (up to 5,500 threads for a fabric 1.80 m wide).

All collections are woven in GOTS certified organic cotton. A commitment to socially responsible and environmentally friendly manufacturing.

In 2017, Lartigue 1910 joined the closed circle of companies distinguished by the EPV Label. This award set up by the State distinguishes French companies with excellent artisanal and industrial know-how. In 2020, Lartigue 1910 obtained the Basque Linen Geographical Indication. The GI distinguishes a product originating from a specific geographical area, which has qualitiesnotoriety or characteristics linked to this place of origin.

real recognition that gives this emblematic weaver a new reason to proudly brandish its stripes!
