Bastide de Lembeye The former capital of Vic-Bilh

Located on the borders of Béarn, facing Armagnac and Bigorre, Lembeye occupies a strategic position.
To resist the inevitable incursions from its neighbors, the village was built as a fortified town towards the end of the 13th century. Having become Protestant in the 16th century, Lembeye was devastated during the Wars of Religion and burned down by Catholic troops at the beginning of the 17th century, which led to the reconstruction of most of the houses in the town.
A circuit of approximately 2 km takes you to discover the fortified town. You will discover Place Marcadieu with its 18th-century houses, the Clock Tower, the Hautes Promenades path with its view of the Pyrenees mountain range, the Gothic-style church and its flamboyant-style portal...
