Bastide de Garlin Explore the rich heritage of Béarn

Garlin developed in the Middle Ages on the Roman road linking Lescar to Aire-sur-l'Adour and the transhumance route of Saint-Pé.

Appearing as early as the 10th century, the town grew in importance, with the founding of a bastide in 1302 by Viscountess Marguerite de Béarn. Around the square typical of medieval bastides, the village flourished with the cattle market and developed under the impetus of large Protestant, then Catholic, families, mainly on rue Victor Lefranc.

The fortified town was protected by moats and enclosed by three gates, to the south, north, and east. The Château Hiton testifies to the village's local influence and the refinement of its interior decoration (Louis XV woodwork). The Capuchin monastery, built at the end of the 17th century, marks the resurgence of Catholicism, celebrated in the 19th century by the construction of the Church of Saint John the Baptist.

A 2km loop takes you into the oldest historical heart of the Bastide de Garlin, founded in 1302 by Marguerite de Béarn.

Victor Lefranc Street, the Château Hiton, the Municipal Park and its remains, the Capuchin convent, the Boulevard des Remparts, the old church, the grain store Place de la Liberté, the Saint-Jean-Baptiste church, will allow you to discover Garlin over time.
