Moncaup, the village of fountains The village of fountains, a walk accessible to all in Béarn

Moncaup boasts an exceptional hydraulic system. In 1833, the town council decided to build around twenty fountains to ensure the water supply for all parts of the village. Each fountain was sometimes complemented by a watering trough or a washhouse, after which the water continued its course towards the Adour River. The quality of the materials—stone, brick, pebbles, and wood—and the construction techniques—facade stones, brick vaults, and pebble walls—demonstrate a now-lost expertise.

Four hiking trails, ranging from 3 to 7 km, lead you to the discovery of nine fountains, some of which include a watering trough or a washhouse. You'll walk through vineyards and woods, enjoying superb views along the way. Also, discover the church illuminated by seven stained-glass windows by René-Marie Castaing.
