Moncaup, the village of fountains The village of fountains, a walk accessible to all in Béarn

Moncaup boasts an exceptional hydraulic complex. In 1833, the municipal council decided to build around twenty fountains to ensure the water supply to all parts of the village. The fountain was sometimes supplemented by a drinking trough or washhouse, and the water then returned to the Adour. The quality of the materials—stone, brick, pebble, and wood—and the workmanship—facade stones, brick vaults, and pebble walls—demonstrate a know-how that has now disappeared.

Four hiking trails of 3 to 7 km each take you to discover nine fountains, some of which include a drinking trough or a washhouse. You'll walk through vineyards and woods, enjoying superb views. Also discover the church, illuminated by seven stained-glass windows designed by René-Marie Castaing.
