    • Labastide-Villefranche is a commune in Béarn, rich in history and heritage.

      A bit of history

Founded in 1292 by Marguerite, Viscountess of Béarn, Labastide-Villefranche is a typical bastide, built according to an orthogonal plan, with regular streets. Its purpose was to strengthen the protection of Orthez, the capital of Béarn, and to mark the Béarnese presence against the English.

      What makes Labastide-Villefranche so charming?

      • Its architecture : the bastide has retained its original plan, with its straight streets and half-timbered houses. The keep tower, a vestige of an ancient fortress, is an emblem of the city.
      • Its heritage : in addition to the tower, you can discover the old market hall, transformed into a village hall, and the Saint-Martin church.
      • Its environment : located in the heart of Béarn, Labastide-Villefranche is an excellent starting point for exploring the region: the Pyrenees, the gaves (rivers), the picturesque villages...
